OK Go - Last Leaf - Official Video

I found this on creative review in Catherine's PPD session, i love this because of the stop motion photography, and also the illustration, this links to the GDF project as i think it really appeals to the style concsious, and sits with the design rules that i came up with...stylish and conceptual an innovative.

Johnny Harstaff

Johnny Hardstaff is a director and designer, and represented by diffrent companies Sonny (London), 'Premiere Heure' (Paris) and 'Little Minx' (Los Angeles), He has worked for major projects some being, Radioheads, Skoda and Sony.

I love these sketchbooks because they are clear but still show a style of working, with different collages and sketches, mounting to a finished design. This style would work really well with my PDF presenation design.

COLLAGE COLLAGE!

Collages are now finished! In the start they were so hard to get get going, but then i came up with a few quich ideas, whereby i cut out headlines and drumed up ideas from those.

GRAPHIC DESIGN FUNDAMENTALS: CLIENT + MESSAGE + TARGET AUDIENCE = FORMAT

Having started on the project, i have realised that after Friday's research workshop, there are alot of factors to discuss and discover about each variable (mine being, client: small company, message: appreciate culture, and target audience: style conscious 20-30 year old's.)
I have just started generating a few ideas for each variable, and thinking about primary and secondary research directly relating to that variable.

Rihanna - Rude Boy

I really like this video directed by Melina Matsouhas. It is a pop art, 80's throw back video that incorparates illustration, layering, moving image, repeats and cutout images, and hue defition. All together i think the video works because of its relation to contempoary streetwear culture, and how stylised it it. The video also channels the work of Keith Harring and Andy Warhole.

This ties in well with my first project to present a peice of graphic communication for a small business, were the message to get across is 'appricate culture' and the target
audience are style concious 20-30 year old's.

TYPOGRAPHY

I really enjoyed this session it opened my eyes to different ways of experimenting with type, on the worksheet the decompose box most enlightened me to how far you can put type, until it unreadable.

PREVIOUS WORK

Above is a 4 meter by 1.5 meter 24.2mm piece of laminated sandblasted glass, for an architectural client used as a walk on floor panel.

These are a pair of glass doors to fit onto a clients changing room, and he requested a modern take on the old Pilkington style of etched glass 'Barocade'.

TATE BRITAIN: FIONA BANNER

Banner has placed fighter planes in the space, one a Harrier suspended with a tattooed textured surface, and a Jaguar upside down, with a polished surface (mirror like). The jaguar linked to our recent V.C.T lecture, where we touched upon the point; How a person can connect to the art that they are viewing especially in the absence or presents of words. Banner presented a short film on entrance to the exhibition where she explained the inpiration of the peices formed from some of her written transcription 'Wordscapes'. As the Jaguar was polished and showed the viewers reflection it was as though it was communicating with the viewer and exposing the audiences reactions, and provocted words for the peice without there being any words actually on the peice.

The train from Wolverhampton (home) to London and vis versa can get very monotonous, so after the layout lesson with Jo Spencer i decided to find some tutorials on InDesign, and this is quite a good one on magazine cover design from Layers Magazine! (very easy to follow)
Still keeping with my theme of words and images working together; i have found this promotional poster with Casey Affleck from the film 'I'm Still Here'. I love how the text is broken to showcase the profile because this opens the film to interpretation and allows the veiwer to understand the message of the poster while still seeing the main Protagonist.

When I look at this in relation to the Visual Culture and Theory excersise, it makes me think about the correlation between words and images and its definitely a strong one! Without the words on this picture it still would be a very striking image. however with the words highlighted in a primary colour which is quite aggressive, it is more specific and really engages with the viewer, provocing statements and questions.

Visual Culture and Theory; using words and images to communicate to the veiwer and inspired by Barabar Kruger. Here there are random postcards together witch have been carfully spaced with the particular words, 'Experience Required...make mistakes to grow without fear'.
